My Mom is one crafty lady....

Over the weekend my mom got some crafty mojo going on and she was a force that could not be stopped.

Lets start with outside. She took the wreath off of the door and changed out the arrangement to make it ready for fall.

Anyone who has a porch knows that you have to keep it swept clean, but most brooms are just an ugly distraction from a pretty front porch, so she went to Dollar General and bought an old fashioned wooden handled broom. She taped painted it and then Mod Podged paper and ribbon, so now we can leave the broom on the porch and it not be an eye sore.

(can you see the kick plate on my front door? It used to be brass, just like EVERYTHING else in this house used to be, so when we changed out the door knobs for the front door, I was too cheap to pay $25 for a new kick plate, so I took it off and spray painted it with Rust-Oleum's Hammered Spray Paint in Silver, and it turned out great. This is the spray paint that I used on all the remaining door knobs and lighting fixtures that we kept in the house, turning them from tarnished brass to a hammered, almost brushed nickel effect.)

Also on our front porch we have a bench that used to be green but has since been painted black, that Queen Suzy likes to sit on, well we were tired about having to put blankets on it, it looked trashy, so my mom made a giant pillow case contraption to slip over the seat cushion and then made an extra pillow and stitched it on the cushion, just for Suzy to sit on. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the fabric used on this used to be a shower curtain.

Last but not least for the outside, no home is complete for fall without their very own scarecrow.

Lets move on to the inside of the house, shall we?

Don't judge me to harshly, but alot of my walls are still blank. I have yet to hang anything in my children's room, but that is going to change this week. I have been putting it off because I thought we were going to put shelving all around their rooms, you know for books, awards, trophies, etc., stuff that they want in their rooms but lack the space for, because as we all know you can always make a tiny room have space by using the vertical space. So we have to put that project off for a little, so now I am going to start putting things on the walls.

My son loves baseball, I mean lives and breathes for it and he wanted a way to display some of his baseball cards so my mom came up with this (forgive my pictures)

She took a frame that she bought at a yard sale for $1 and painted it black. 2nd she painted the cardboard insert of the frame a cream color so you couldn't see it thru the fabric. #rd, she sprayed the cardboard with spray adhesive and fixed the fabric to it. 4th, she used some tacky putty (so it would not harm the cards) and fixed them to the board (she had him chose cards that he had 2 of so you could see the front and the back of each card). Finally she put everything inside the frame and VIOLA!! Mr. J loved it.

Miss S is 7 years old and has a hard time sleeping in her own bed, so we thought that we would try to add elements to her room that would make it feel like it was "her" room. She has a queen size bed in there and the frame sits on bed risers so we could put storage boxes under it, so it made it hard to find a bed skirt that would fit it and be long enough.

I found a really pretty striped bed skirt at Goodwill for $2, but it was too short, so my ingenious mom went to Wal-Mart and got a plain white queen bed skirt and sewed the 2 together to make a unique, layered and long enough bed skirt.

She then found a quilt (on sale) that matched the green stripe in the bed skirt, to pull it all together. Next project mom worked on was to come up with some sort of lamp that befitted a girl as fun as Miss S, you see we were using the closet light for a night light, but she wanted a lamp, so mom took a bedside lamp that I had already and painted it a fun teal color, then she outfitted it out by braiding trim and attaching tassels and finishing it off with a finial.

It turned out to be a fun little lamp that looks Hawaiian to me and more importantly Miss S loves.
